Exclusive refrigeration innovation:
The simplest type of condenser pressure regulation

In refrigeration, meanwhile speed controlling fans, especially in condensers that liquefy the refrigerant, are considered standard. Various speed control systems are available. Low-priced voltage control units are widely in use. But power-saving frequency inverters with integrated sinus filters that facilitate extremely low-noise operation are experiencing increased application. Besides that, fans based on EC technology (EC = electronic commutated) are growing in popularity in condensers.

All these systems are differentiated by the way they are commissioned. Frequency inverters and many voltage control devices come with displays that serve as the interface to the operator. They facilitate simple commissioning and indicate the values measured in the plant equipment. The less expensive devices are commissioned using potentiometers attached to the device covers. EC-technology fans that have integrated control functions are generally put into operation via a separate terminal. An alternative to that is programming EC fans through a computer (for instance, by using the ZATerminal programming software). However, the problem that arises is that both these and control units without displays cannot indicate the condenser pressure on the equipment directly.

The new and simplest type of condenser pressure regulation, the sensor controller The Ziehl-Abegg specialists made it their mission to find a more comfortable solution, especially for
EC fans. The goal here was to facilitate rapid, uncomplicated commissioning and at the same time to be able to display the measured condenser pressure. The product that emerged impresses with its simplicity while being state-of-the-art at the same time.

The basis of these innovative control units is tried-and-proven manometer technology, which works wear free and reliably measures pressure. Intelligent control technology that triggers external power stages such EC fans, frequency inverters or other control units correspondent to the settings complements the design, resulting in a control system that is extremely effective but simultaneously easy to handle.

The salient feature here: The sensor controller is supplied by the power electronics that it triggers. During development, special attention was paid to enabling combination with „small“ EC fans, which can only supply currents in the low mA range. The electrical connection of the new device, a 3-conductor supply or control line wired between the sensor control and the EC fan, is also really straightforward. With the new Ziehl-Abegg sensor controller, a product is now available that facilitates controlling fans compliant with the condenser pressure while simultaneously displaying the measured value. That has resulted in the application of energy-saving EC fans in refrigeration becoming simpler and even more cost effective.

Using the integrated pressure registration and evaluation from the sensor controller means separate pressure sensors are no longer required. The savings this leads to keeps the financial expenditure for the new sensor controller astonishingly low while increasing the user-friendliness of your refrigeration plant.

The illustration above clearly expresses the simplicity of the new system. The sensor controller is supplied by the power electronics (10V) while simultaneously feeding the 0-10V actuating signal back to the power electronics. There is an additional connection (GND) on top of that. Based on this plain and simple idea, the system is connected with a 3-conductor control line. The desired condenser pressure is set on the reference value potentiometer in the sensor controller and the degree of reaction to the pressure change can be set here as well.
