Roles and responsibilities in overview

The role of IT specialist is to develop and embed new software in existing IT systems and to network various programs and IT systems together. At ZIEHL-ABEGG SE IT specialists are involved primarily in application development, with the focus on developing new software to meet customers' requirements.


  • Above-average secondary school grades (2.4 or better)
  • Particular interest in IT systems
  • Sound mathematics and science skills

Training content

  • Operational processes (production, warehousing, procurement, controlling, etc.)
  • Designing and implementing customer-specific software applications
  • Testing and documenting applications
  • Modifying existing applications
  • Use of project planning methods, implementation and inspection
  • Use of software development tools
  • Developing ergonomic user interfaces specific to the application
  • Resolving errors through the use of expert and diagnostics systems
  • Giving presentations on applications
  • Advising and training users


  • Also providing on-the-job commercial and technical training and plant-specific training sessions in electronic data processing
  • Independent planning and implementation of PC training sessions (e.g. for standard and customised software)
  • Progression through the company to get to know operational processes

Length of apprenticeship

  • 3 years

Future roles

  • Developing company-specific applications and maintaining existing applications for the web, Windows Client and services
  • Development/support for new or existing proAlpha programs
