Ziehl-Abegg keeps you informed: Mechanical hand release of the brakes for ZETATOP
In the meantime a mechanical hand release is available for the brakes of the ZETATOP gearless elevator machines.
At applications in the machine room or in the modernization thereby the brake can be opened manually.
Some few issues are to be considered with the employment of the brake with mechanical hand release system:
- The brake voltage of the brakes with mechanical hand release system is always 207 V DC.
- The hand release lever is designed according to the dimensional sheets.
Please see for details: Dimension sheets ZETATOP
- A remote control of the hand release, e. g. via a Bowden wire, is not possible.
- The brakes with hand release have a special design. A later retrofit of a brake with a hand release is not possible therefore.
- The hand release always opens both brake circuits. If the test of a single brake circuit is necessary, a corresponding logic is to be included in the elevator control.

Evacuation unit EVAC 3B |
Suitable for the frequency inverter ZETADYN 3BF Ziehl Abegg offers now the evacuation unit EVAC 3B. Like the ZETADYN 3B the EVAC 3B is intended for the installation in the elevator control cabinet.
The EVAC 3B has an integrated power failure detection, i.e. at phase failure the EVAC 3B switches to battery operation. The operation, parameterisation and diagnosis of the EVAC 3B are made comfortably by the ZETAPAD.
The size of the EVAC 3B is independent of the machine, and/or inverter size Suitable to the necessary evacuation energy and the desired evacuation time Ziehl Abegg offers various battery sets, which supply the machine and the frequency inverter with energy, so that always it can be evacuated in the direction given by the control, independent from the load situation.
The manual of the EVAC 3B can be downloaded from here: Operating Instruction EVAC 3B

| Ventilation technology » Ziehl-Abegg motor protection concept |
|
| 15.04.2008 |
Do you already know the advantages of the Ziehl-Abegg motor protection concept?
Ziehl-Abegg external rotor motors, 74mm diameter and above, (except explosion-proof versions), are equipped as standard with thermal sensing switches (denoted ‘TB’) embedded in the motor windings. These thermal sensing switches serve to detect critical winding temperatures during operation, for example in motor overload situations.
This benefit enables the reliable protection of your Ziehl-Abegg fan against damage, even if critical operating conditions should occur. For monitoring these thermal sensing switches, Ziehl-Abegg offers a range of special motor protection contactors.

More about the Ziehl-Abegg motor protection concept... |
Commercially available motor overload relays simply disconnect the motor power supply in an overload situation. In contrast, Ziehl-Abegg motor protection contactors, besides providing motor protection by monitoring the actual winding temperatures, offer a wide variety of further options.
The advantages of the Ziehl-Abegg motor protection contactors are:
- Direct interpretation of a high winding temperature condition by monitoring the integrated thermal sensing switch “TB”.
- Integrated power cable protection function (fuse function) by over-current tripping which is configurable based-upon cable current carrying capacity (cable cross section) (3 phase units only).
- Integrated dual clamp terminals enabling the connection of two conductors per terminal, in turn enabling the parallel connection of two fans per motor protection contactor (3 phase units only).
- Integrated manual on/off push buttons, with optional lockable isolation switch for use during repairs/maintenance.
- Remote ‘run’ and ‘fault’ indication via optional auxiliary contacts (denoted ZB).
Application example:

3 phase motor contactors distributing power from a high performance controller to multiple motors:
Our system concept however extends beyond separate installed motor contactors :
To simplify installation, Ziehl-Abegg developed a complete power distribution system, pre-wired and equipped with motor protection contactors.
Only the incoming power cable (usually from the controller output) and the fan power distribution cables have to be connected to this complete system. The fan power distribution cables are connected directly to the terminals of motor protection contactors. When using the 3 phase motor protection contactors, the integrated dual clamp terminals enable 12 fans to be powered via 6 motor protection contactors. The power distribution panel is IP54 rated.
Pre-wired 80A power distribution panel with integrated motor protection contactors. Also available with mains isolation switch.
Applications:
Refrigeration
- power distribution and protection for fans fitted to air-cooled condensers and dry coolers
Ventilation
- multiple fan supply in warehouses, industrial buildings and greenhouses for example
- power distribution on multiple high performance fans for door air curtains
...everywhere fans are operated in parallel and customers require a complete solution.

| Ventilation technology » Ziehl-Abegg presents its new FE2owlet and Vp... |
|
| 10.03.2008 |
With its advanced axial fan FE2owlet (Ř 250 to 350 mm) and trend-setting centrifugal fan Vpro (Ř 190 to 250 mm) Ziehl-Abegg AG based in Kunzelsau is continuing the development of its successful Little Blue model series.
Ziehl-Abegg has increased its range of innovative FE2owlet model series as well as the highly-efficient centrifugal fans Vpro to include smaller diameters.
The latest knowledge in bionics in combination with state-of-the-art technology, which formed the basis for the new FE2owlet and Vpro developments, was incorporated into the Little Blue model series. This in turn enabled Ziehl-Abegg to set a new standard in the market, based on the previously established external rotor motor.

more about new FE2owlet and Vpro impellers |
The axial fans FE2owlet (Ř 250 to 350 mm) and centrifugal fans Vpro (Ř 190 to 250 mm) are available with both AC and EC motor technology, and can be operated at 50 Hz or 60 Hz. Versions to meet CE, UL and CCC standards are also available.
The FE2owlet, which in March 2007 won the coveted “Air Movement Product of the Year” award as part of the H&V awards, is now extremely close to being the quintessential fan in terms of energy, efficiency and noise.
The brand new type of wing geometry in the Ziehl-Abegg FE2owlet is a result of the direct implementation of the latest bionic knowledge. The owl acted here as the model, a bird with the quietest wing noise in the animal kingdom. OWLET is a word made up from OWL (for the bird) and LET (for winglet). This entirely new form of wing geometry serves to significantly enhance the aerodynamic properties. This is why this premium fan is now even more equipped to fulfill the requirements in terms of low noise, reliability and greater efficiency.
The FE2owlet is particularly well-suited for service in all climatic and cold zones, ventilation systems or areas, in which volume flow rates with low noise and compact design are required.
With the Vpro the engineers at Ziehl-Abegg have come up with a new centrifugal fan which has a “free-running impeller”. The advantages of the two tried-and-tested Ziehl-Abegg impeller model series “G” and “M” have been combined here in a single product. Because the blade geometry was developed specifically in accordance with the basic principles of acoustics technology, the new grooved centrifugal fans excel because of their low noise and rotational tone emissions. At the same time, efficiency has also been boosted.
The Vpro centrifugal fan is particularly well-suited to roof fans, for both supply fresh air and extract air, as well as for service in air/water heat pumps, precision air handling units, and in filter/fan units for clean-room technology, in which high volume flow rates with low noise levels and medium pressure differences are required.

| Drive technology » ZETATOP SM160 and ZETATOP SM250C online |
|
| 07.03.2008 |
The successful and popular ZETATOP product family has now received additional members, today we'd like to introduce you to the youngest members of the family:
The ZETATOP SM160 starts off the ZETATOP series at the bottom. By using innovative, thin wire ropes in connection with traction sheaves starting from
160 mm diameter, especially competitive elevators with the smallest shaft dimensions and minimal wellheads are feasible.
The counterparts to the ZETATOP SM160 are the new ZETATOP SM250.80 and SM250.100. Both large ZETATOP’s are designed for lifting capacities up to 3,200 kg in suspension 2:1 and velocities up to 4 m/s. That means they can be used in large cargo lifts just as well as fast running drives in skyscrapers, where an elevator needs to cover travels of 150 m and more in the shortest time.
One strength of the Ziehl-Abegg drive division is the well balanced assortment of ZETATOP machines. Each of the dimensional ranges are appropriately designed for your particular applications - this is our goal.
