Ziehl-Abegg AG, with its workforce of more than 2,100, is one of the leading international companies in the area of international fans and drives with matching control technology. In addition to the main plant located in Künzelsau in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, the traditional company has more than 20 branch offices, production sites and business partners around the globe. Compared to the classical axial and centrifugal fans, cross-flow fans often play a subordinate role in the minds of designers; mistakenly, in the opinion of the Ziehl-Abegg specialists.
There are many applications where cross-flow fans exhibit significant system advantages over axial and centrifugal fans, advantages that are particularly called for where a uniform, broad flow of air is required. You can achieve as broad a flow of air as required by connecting several fans together.
The compact design means they can be installed where space is at a premium. At the same time, relatively low air speeds provide a favorable noise level. If one looks at the system as a whole, a cross-flow fan is frequently the less-expensive solution: For example, if a centrifugal fan is fitted in a comparable application, it usually also requires the installation of expensive air-distribution units and deflectors; by contrast, they will not generally be required with the cross-flow fan. Benefits such as these enable simpler and less expensive construction; such compactness fosters greater design freedom. At the same time, the uniform air flow ensures high process quality coupled with optimum efficiency.
This is why cross-flow fans have established themselves in many types of application: A/C convectors, air curtains, automotive air conditioning, drying units, A/C cabinets, transformer cooling, laser technology and electronic cooling. The large variety of cylindrical impeller diameters ranging from 60 to 120mm and lengths up to 1.20m mean that the ideal fan can be found for almost any application. Alongside the long established QR model (90°- air flow), the multi-purpose QK model is now becoming increasingly popular. Depending on where it is installed, and whether fitted with deflectors, the air flow can be either 90 or 180°. The perforated key tab not only serves to stabilize the characteristic it also helps to dampen noise.
Ziehl-Abegg has been manufacturing cross-flow fans since 1968. The product range encompasses 35 basic models that can be broken down further into many variants. When special customer applications and customized versions are taken into account Ziehl-Abegg carries more than 1000 different cross-flow fans.
