The idea of transposing insights from nature or organic processes into technical products was not one the ZIEHL-ABEGG development department plucked out of nowhere. Nature has had millions of years to produce perfection through process of time.

Intelligent technology combined with bionic insights are the key to the high-tech products of the future.


FE2owlet

Bionic blade design: Axial fan with globally unique bionic blades
Essential findings from the shape of the wings of a nocturnal barn owl led to development of the FE2owlet fan. The flow noise in flight was the determining feature. The successful adaptation of these essential insights to the development of the FE2owlet blade profile – with a profiled, sickle-shaped blade and a serrated trailing edge – creates a globally unique blade design with incredibly efficient flow characteristics, larger air volumes and drastically reduced noise development than in comparable fans.


ZAbluefin

Blue steel with depth: bionic, corrugated, extremely efficient, super-silent
Following the example of the humpback whale, whose fins, when swimming in the sea, have to master similar challenges as fans do, the ZIEHL-ABEGG engineers and technicians adapted their insights into the new technology of the ZAbluefin. ZAbluefin especially profits from the whale’s fin with its protrusions (tubercles) at the front, which ensures the best incident flow. Also for example the V-shaped contour of the rear fin (fluke), after for example being technically implemented in the ZAbluefin also reduces possible flow tear-off at the cover and bottom plate. This permits using the fan in many pressure range requirements.


ZAvblue

The tree whisperer: bionic radial fan for more airflow at smaller diameters
Based on the tried and tested bionic blade concept of the Cpro impeller, insights from the growth behaviour of trees – with branches that resist winds and weather – complete the bionic blade design of the ZAvblue in the attachment and output of the cover and bottom discs. This successful adaptation in technical situations leads to an optimised efficiency at high volume flows, combined with a broad efficiency range. The highly efficient radial fan ZAvblue with its bionic light-weight construction is a perfect symbiosis of high-tech and nature with the Premium Efficiency predicate.


ZApilot

The new fan system for even higher efficiency
The search for a stable, material-saving and light-weight construction led the developers of ZIEHL-ABEGG to study bees. They build their honeycombs extremely stable and yet very light in weight. Any stress is distributed across the entire construction through the walls to prevent point loads. The hexagonal geometry gives the construction the required stability, while the hollow spaces save resources. The honeycomb structure of the airflow-optimised suspension thus ensures maximum stability while also being cost-optimised by saving material.
