Innovative fan system impresses Good Design jury
Higher efficiency, new design and simplest handling: Ziehl-Abegg´s fan system ZAplus
“I am very happy that our new fan system ZAplus has been recognised with the Good Design Award”, says Norihiro Wada, Managing Director Ziehl-Abegg Japan. The Good Design Award is a Japanese comprehensive design evaluation and commendation system, operated by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP). The awarded fan system ZAplus is used in refrigeration and air conditioning applications.
The jury appreciated particularly the consideration of environment protection aspects and user-friendliness of the ZAplus. The shape of the blades is perfectly designed for a very effective airflow and low noise. “The owl´s winglets showed the engineers how to achieve the perfect airflow”, explains Norihiro Wada the bionic background of the product. As a result, ZAplus is setting a new standard in the area of efficiency. After that, a supermarket operator or hotel owner, for instance, saves money every day through the significantly lower electrical power consumption and the higher purchase price is amortised within one year. ZAplus fan systems offer up to 24% higher efficiency and are noticeably quieter than conventional fans. There are also logistical advantages, a high level of flexibility and the possibility of using alternative materials. Since ZAplus requires no packaging, even the shipping is environmentally friendly.
The ZAplus system provides device manufacturers who are worried about the strict EU regulations on energy saving (ErP 2015) certainty as of now. That's because the new development from Ziehl-Abegg exceeds the world's strictest savings target both with the energy saving ECblue motors and the standard AC-motors. The ZAplus system consists of an axial fan of the FE2owlet range, placed in a compact unit made of high strength composite material into which motor and controller are already integrated. Along with the perfectly matched combination of efficient individual elements, the composite material also permits new shapes, which have a positive selective influence on the airflow.
More than 100 engineers are working every day at the headquarters of Ziehl-Abegg in Germany to improve the fans even further. “The Good Design Award is a testimony to the quality work of my colleagues in Germany”, says Norihiro Wada. The award ceremony took place in Tokyo on November 2012.
