Turning two into one
Electric motors with integrated internal gear pump
Acompletely new integrated internal gear pump was developed in close cooperation with Voith Turbo in Heidenheim. The result is an integrated unit has been created from the previously two separate components – the integrated internal gear pump and the electric motor. By creating this integration in a mutual housing, a previously impossible installation-space reduction of nearly 50 % has been achieved. On top of that, the noise level has been reduced by more than 12 dB, which, according to statements from the customer, corresponds to a „drastic reduction“.
The motor construction – pump hybrid system EPAI (the shortened form for Electric motor Pump Aggregate Integrated) is quite simple. This electric motor is an oil pass version. The hydraulic pump itself is connected to the drive via a pull-in of the rotor shaft through a perforated clutch, which, again, is permanently connected with the electric rotor. The electrical rotor is mounted directly via the pump’s overall diameter. Through that, the overall diameter of the pump housing becomes a functional area of the friction bearing.
Ziehl-Abegg supplies the complex electric motors for this innovative pump system, in the 3 to 11 kW output ranges. At the same time, only the motors’ winding lengths are varied for the various outputs; the outer diameter remains constant.
Through this enormous noise advantage and the compact construction, great potential has been opened up, and not only in mechanical engineering, e.g., in synthetics injection molding machines. New applications, e.g. in winch drives and drives used in conveyor equipment have already been successfully sampled, also for Voith Turbo.
This completely novel product-idea could be successfully implemented through the expertise of the participating employees, interdisciplinary collaboration and strictly customer-oriented development work.
