Ziehl-Abegg external rotor motors (except flameproof motors) are equipped as standard with thermostatic switches in the winding. These thermostatic switches serve to detect critical winding temperatures when the motor is operating, for example where malfunctions occur (obstruction of the fan). The benefit to you is that you can protect the fan motor against damage should critical operating conditions occur.
Ziehl-Abegg motor contactor switches are available which monitor the status of the thermostatic switches integrated into the motor windings. In contrast to commercially-available motor contactor switches, which only provide current related motor protection, Ziehl-Abegg motor contactor switches offer a significantly greater degree of functionality and reliability through direct monitoring of the motor winding temperature.
The following equipment is integrated into, or is available for, the 3 phase motor contactors:
- Monitoring of thermostatic switches (winding temperature) integrated into the fan/motor assembly
- Integrated protection functions, i.e. configurable over-current tripping (on cable cross-section) for protection of cable to the motors
- Integrated switches for manually switching the connected motors on and off
- Use as lockable repair switches (with optional extra: Zrep)
- Status signal through plug-in auxiliary contact (optional extra)
Our system concept however extends beyond separate motor contactors:
To be able to offer you products which make installation even simpler Ziehl-Abegg have developed complete power distribution systems, which are equipped with motor contactors and are wired ready for operation.
The only thing that needs connecting to this integral system is the power cable – this can also be the controller output. The fans are connected in the power distribution box, directly at the integrated motor contactors. The motor contactors’ double clamp terminals can each have two fans connected to them and both fans are then monitored. This means that two adjacent power distribution systems with three integrated motor contactors could operate 6 fans
(fan monitoring in pairs).
