Drive technology control engineering

ZIEHL-ABEGG places great emphasis on high quality, safety, and reliability. For its drive systems, ZIEHL-ABEGG develops and manufactures control technology precisely matched to the motors.
The frequency inverter ZAdyn offers comprehensive functionality in a compact design, suitable for control cabinet and wall mounting. Through the power feedback unit ZArec, regenerative energy is processed and fed back into the supply grid, enabling the utilization of additional energy-saving potential. Evacuation units of the EVAC 3 series switch the ZAdyn into emergency operation mode and facilitate direction-independent travel at reduced speed for the safe evacuation of the elevator.
Whether for new installations or the retrofit modernization of an existing system, ZIEHL-ABEGG is a reliable partner.

Drive technology from ZIEHL-ABEGG offers decisive advantages for elevator manufacturers, as motors and control technology are provided from a single source. High compatibility, connectivity, and control technology precisely matched to the drive are strong arguments for the high-quality elevator technology of ZIEHL-ABEGG.

ZIEHL-ABEGG has been developing elevator technology for more than 100 years. This extensive experience is incorporated into the products, establishing the company as an experienced partner for realizing new, modern elevator solutions as well as upgrading the technology in existing elevator systems. ZIEHL-ABEGG develops and manufactures  frequency inverters, power recovery units, evacuation units and other system components that are aligned with the various ZIEHL-ABEGG elevator machines, supporting the reliable, safe, and economical operation of elevator systems.

In frame sizes up to 220 A, ZIEHL-ABEGG is a provider of contactorless operation of the elevator drive in combination with an electronic short circuit of the motor windings.

Whether constructing a new elevator installation or modernizing an existing system via retrofit: with drives and control technology for elevators from ZIEHL-ABEGG, customers benefit from a solution specifically designed for operational safety.

ZAdyn frequency inverter

The frequency inverters of the ZAdyn series, developed for elevator technology, deliver comprehensive functionality within compact dimensions. They regulate the rotational speed of the elevator motor and, with various housing variants and a compact design, are suitable for both control cabinet and wall mounting.

Rope elevators equipped with synchronous or asynchronous motors (including those from other manufacturers) achieve high ride comfort and extremely precise elevator car positioning when combined with the frequency inverter ZAdyn.

The integrated Safe Torque Off (STO) safety function according to IEC 61800-5-2 (SIL 3) fulfils the requirements of EN 81-20. Evacuation journeys are possible with UPS and batteries. The intuitive software offers monitoring functions in accordance with the Lift Directive 2014/33/EU:

  • Direction of travel change counter for lifts with cables or belts featuring a plastic jacket
  • Self-monitoring of the motor brake for protecting against unintended car movement
  • Self-monitoring of the motor brake as part of the protective device for preventing the car from overspeeding when travelling upwards

ZArec contributes to energy efficiency

In many elevator systems, the energy generated during regenerative travel is not utilized, but is instead converted into waste heat via a braking resistor. Due to rising energy costs, alternative solutions are increasingly required in order to harness this unused energy potential and enhance energy efficiency.

The ZArec energy recovery unit enables elevators to recover energy by processing the regenerative energy and feeding it into the supply network in a sinusoidal manner. ZArec exceeds the requirements of EN 12015 for electromagnetic compatibility of the power recuperation unit.

EVAC – evacuation

The evacuation units in the EVAC 3C model range were developed for elevator technology. In the event of a power supply failure, the evacuation unit for elevators secures availability and switches the ZAdyn into emergency operation mode. This facilitates load- and direction-independent evacuation at reduced travel speed, as well as the safest possible evacuation of the elevator for up to 60 minutes.

Blue cloud ZAbluegalaxy next to digital network with large city skyline in the background

ZAbluegalaxy for intelligent elevator technology

With ZAbluegalaxy a cloud technology is available that allows elevator systems to be analyzed location-independently with a single click. This enables the prompt monitoring of critical sensor data and performance parameters regarding system status and ride comfort, as well as the collection of statistical data. These insights can provide early indications of wear and restricted traction capability, allowing preventive maintenance measures to be initiated before serious problems occur.

ZAlift design software

To ensure the reliable design of elevator drives and frequency inverters and to determine energy requirements and energy costs quickly and easily, ZIEHL-ABEGG developed ZAlift. This calculation and configuration software for elevators is the dedicated tool for selecting drive package components and for performing all calculations required for official elevator acceptance (EN 81-compliant traction capability, stopping distance in accordance with EN 81-20, and the energy efficiency class of the elevator according to VDI 4707).

ZAmon Mobile app for intelligent operation

ZAmon Mobile, provides a practical tool for operating frequency inverters of the ZAdyn series via mobile devices. Self-explanatory icons and a clearly structured user interface ensure rapid familiarization. Informative explanatory texts for each parameter and extensive online help support the commissioning, parameterization, and analysis of elevator systems. The commissioning wizard guides users through all necessary parameters in straightforward steps. Parameterization can be carried out directly on site or offline in advance—and direct email contact with ZIEHL-ABEGG customer service is available for any technical inquiries.
