From fruit, vegetables, meat, and fish to ready-to-eat convenience products - supermarkets offer fresh goods for sale every day in their refrigerated counters, refrigerators, and freezers. In order to guarantee that products are stored at the right temperature to keep them protected, these refrigeration units require a continuous power supply day and night, whether the supermarket is open or closed.
The number of these continuous power consumers at a single supermarket quickly adds up: besides refrigerated and freezer counters, they can also include convenience units for product presentation, refrigerated cabinets and freezer chests for chilled drinks, fresh goods, and dairy products, promotional units for special offers, and ice chests or drinks units in the checkout or service area.
For this reason, energy-efficient devices are in high demand - they require as little energy as possible to keep products cold, while also operating as quietly as possible. After all, customers at supermarkets want to shop in a relaxing environment that doesn't disturb them with loud fan noises each time they open a refrigerator cabinet or freezer chest to choose an item.
ZIEHL-ABEGG offers pioneering solutions that enable supermarket operators to achieve long-term reductions not only in their energy costs but also in noise emission: by combining low-noise FE2owlet fans with the latest ECQ motor technology. After all, efficiency is of paramount importance for all fans throughout the refrigeration chain. Shaded pole motors, which were once a popular choice for cold storerooms, had an extremely low efficiency rating of only 18 percent, with more than 80 percent of the energy consumed by them escaping into the surrounding air as heat loss. As a result, fans needed even more power in order to cool the surrounding air to the required temperature. You can break this undesirable cycle of energy waste by using fan drives from our ECQ motor range. These quiet and strong motors achieve an efficiency rating of up to 65 percent, generating much less heat loss and cooling much more effectively using significantly less power.
This means your products will not only comply with stricter legal requirements, but also satisfy your customers' demands for a better energy balance and lower operating costs.
Another important issue in addition to energy efficiency is the environmental stability of the coolant used. Demand is growing worldwide for natural coolants - or at least less environmentally harmful coolants with a lower GWP value - for example, in the European Union's F-Gas Regulation EU 517/2014. This trend is also leading to the increasing use of coolants which, while they are more environmentally friendly, are also combustible or inflammable. In order for refrigerated counters and cabinets to be safely operable, motors and fan systems must also increasingly meet the requirements of DIN EN 60335-2-40 or 2-89, or even possess an ATEX license.
Our FE2owlet-ECQ and FE2owlet fans with EC055 can also be obtained with the corresponding licenses, allowing them to be used in devices with combustible coolants.
