Cold Chain

The highest efficiency and lowest energy costs: Fans from ZIEHL-ABEGG for cooling and refrigerating goods, medicines and food

The cold chain is a continuous refrigerating system that must be strictly adhered to when transporting sensitive or perishable goods. Chilled and frozen food for the catering industry and supermarkets, as well as many chemical and medical products, must be kept at the right refrigerated temperature on their way from the manufacturer, via the wholesaler, to the consumer. This is the only way to ensure that they reliably meet the high safety, quality and hygiene requirements that are also prescribed by law.

In terms of time, the cold chain can be divided into two phases: With rapid freezing or blast freezing, the chilled goods, e.g. meat, seafood or even blood supplies and medical samples, are brought to a specific temperature in a very short amount of time. Once the desired temperature has been reached, the goods are often stored refrigerated for a longer period of time until they are finally processed or consumed.

Any interruption in the cold chain, no matter how brief, represents a high risk. For this reason, the refrigerating systems and fans used throughout the cold chain for mobile refrigeration, cold rooms and cool stores must also need to provide continuous and fail-safe operation. In addition to complete reliability, economy is also an important factor.

Fans should achieve maximum performance and (energy) efficiency while taking up the smallest possible footprint and with minimum power consumption. Modern refrigerating systems should also operate quietly in order to cause as little disturbing noise or irritating continuous noise as possible for the people who work and shop along the cold chain. This requires energy-saving, highly efficient and particularly low-noise fans.

ZIEHL-ABEGG has the perfect cold chain solution

The exceptionally quiet FE2owlet fans from ZIEHL-ABEGG are the perfect solution for fixed cool rooms and mobile refrigeration. The impressive acoustic values are achieved by an innovative biomimetic blade geometry that optimises airflow and efficiency, as well as reducing noise. Together with ZAplus technology from ZIEHL-ABEGG, FE2owlet fans form a reassuringly quiet system that is always safe and will actively help you save electricity and money from the very first day of use.

Nature served as a model for the development of the quiet FE2owlet fans: the model for this biomimetic design was the wings of the owl with their perfect aerodynamic properties. We studied, analyzed and then transferred these - with our corrosion-resistant, temperature-resistant and durable high-performance composite material.

The ZIEHL-ABEGG fans with the trend-setting blue technology are manufactured in a resource-saving way and also improve the environmental friendliness of the cooling system due to their excellent performance and energy efficiency.

By subdividing into different cold rooms or cool stores, goods that need to be cooled to different temperatures can also be stored under one roof without any problems. Particular care must be taken along the cold chain to ensure that the temperature is continuously controlled and, if necessary, quickly adjusted by “thinking” control technology if temperature fluctuations occur due to external influences.

Thanks to smart, demand-oriented control, you can significantly increase the efficiency of your refrigerating system: Instead of fans commonly used in cool stores with only two speed levels, install ECblue technology from ZIEHL-ABEGG with steplessly adjustable speed control. This will allow you to save energy and costs thanks to greater use flexibility. For example, speed control can be easily adjusted through a 0-10V potentiometer. This provides the advantage, especially in the case of later retrofits, that the new energy-saving technology can be easily and cost-effectively integrated into the existing system.

Environmentally friendly refrigeration with the Royal League in ventilation, drive and control technology

Both the Ecodesign Directive (ErP Directive) and the F-Gas Regulation (EU 517/2014) must be observed with all types of refrigerating systems. The stricter requirements of the ErP Directive on energy efficiency and the switch to natural, more environmentally friendly refrigerants required by the F-Gas Regulation make the innovative and economical technologies from ZIEHL-ABEGG even more attractive.

Customer-specific solutions from ZIEHL-ABEGG for fixed and mobile cooling

Axial fans are the most frequently used fans along the cool chain. ZIEHL-ABEGG has a huge selection for cold rooms, cool stores and refrigerated containers. Our extensive product portfolio will help you realise customised solutions for every requirement, temperature and voltage range. In addition to FE2owlet axial fans, ZAplus or MAXvent fans are also available for specific requirements, so that you can put together the optimum system for your needs with an AC or EC drive and corresponding control technology.

In large cold rooms or warehouses, the throw distance of the air plays a major role in ensuring that the cold air is transported evenly by the fan over longer distances and reaches everywhere in the storage room. Guide vans are good option to increase the throw distance (speed per unit of time at a certain distance). These can optionally be fitted on the pressure side of the fans. With the ZAplus system from ZIEHL-ABEGG, the guide vanes is already integrated and can easily be retrofitted in fans from other model ranges.
