Competence Days of Meiller Elevator Doors and Ziehl-Abegg in Munich, Cologne and Hamburg

Technology, trends and legal guidelines shaped the Competence Days 2017, presented by companies Meiller Elevator Doors and Ziehl-Abegg. The interest shown by elevator manufacturers and operators as well as by planners was exceptionally large. In Munich only over 80 participants attended the event in the Meiller Headquarters. The interest in Hamburg and Cologne was also remarkable, so that a total of more than 200 participants were counted.

At the center of the Competence Days was the presentation of the Technical Inspection Association (TÜV, for its German initials) for the change in standard. Elevators which start operating in September will have to comply with norms EN 81-20 and EN 81-50. The presentation was held by Eva Adam in Munich, Volker Sepanski in Cologne and Axel Stohlmann in Hamburg. The design and technical characteristics of the elevators are defined by EN 81-20. The safety components and the testing of lifts are explained in EN 81-50. Graphs and easy-to-understand explanations were met with great interest by the audience. Peter Will, Sales Manager at Meiller Elevator Doors, introduced innovations for vertical doors. Rolling or lifting doors are increasingly being used instead of the usual car door. In addition, the elements are also installed as upward-closing landing doors. Wolgang Weiss explained how the complete elevator control system can be installed at the door frame.

The advantages of the Meiller Website were shown by Sarah Reisse. Markus Strohschneider introduced the free Meiller CAD software for elevator planning.

Michael Hase explained the fact that elevators can do without the loud cracking of the shooter. Ziehl-Abegg offers solutions that meet the subjective perception of noise. “In addition, many electromechanical components, which used to break down, can be spared now.” Dieter Rieger, Sales Director of Ziehl-Abegg, spoke about energy saving measures and the use of calculation of recovery solutions for elevators. He pointed out the meaningful dimensioning of the counterweight, which can drop to 40% for some uses.

Thomas Florian looked into the future of the gearless drives in view of expiring patents. He also presented the new series of the extremely flat disc rotors from Ziehl-Abegg and gave tips on the optimal size of traction sheaves.

Exhibits from Meiller Elevator Doors and Ziehl-Abegg created connections for professional exchange. In addition, there was sufficient time for networking and personal conversations.
