When transporting sensitive and perishable goods, the required refrigeration temperature must be maintained throughout the entire transport journey. The cold chain must not be broken, which is why refrigeration units and cooling systems for trucks must, above all, operate reliably and avoid downtime wherever possible.
To support long-term operation, refrigeration technology for refrigerated and deep-freeze semi-trailers, vans and other mobile refrigeration solutions is designed for use under diverse operating conditions. But it is not only frozen and refrigerated products that need protection and must arrive at their destination safely and in perfect condition. In the case of transport refrigeration, it is not only the reliable availability of the refrigeration system that is decisive, but also the ability to control the mobile refrigeration or air conditioning system as precisely as possible. In refrigeration logistics, everything depends on the right temperature, which in turn is determined by the goods to be transported. Frozen fish in particular should be transported at a constant temperature of at least -18°C in order to meet all food safety requirements. However, -14°C is sufficient as a safe transport temperature for frozen meat or frozen egg products. Fresh meat, sausages, and fresh fish and seafood require temperatures around the freezing point (maximum 2-3°C), while dairy products are safe to eat at 4°C. Flowers, fruit and vegetables do not necessarily have to be refrigerated but they will stay fresh for longer if transported at a temperature between 4 and 8°C.
In modern refrigerated trucks or freezer and refrigerated trailers, several separate refrigeration zones with different temperatures for different products can be set up simultaneously. It should be possible to set the refrigeration system precisely to the degree and provide the required transport refrigeration constantly at the set temperature. Using sensors and coordinated control technology, the system can quickly detect temperature fluctuations (which cannot be avoided, for example, during loading and unloading when the doors are opened) and compensate for these by adjusting the fan speed and output, for example. In the case of air conditioning systems, other parameters, such as the humidity content of the air, can also be measured and controlled as required.
Thanks to their controllable drives, the EC fans from ZIEHL-ABEGG enable demand-based control. In combination with matching control and regulation technology, they support compliance with the required temperature conditions and can thus contribute to fulfilling relevant transport, storage and hygiene requirements.
Furthermore, the systems are suitable for use in conventional cooling systems as well as in modern refrigeration plants. For example, they can be combined with solutions that use refrigerants such as CO₂ under the F-Gas Regulation.
